Overview
Mercor trains frontier AI models using human expertise. In this role, you'll review AI-generated in-product writing, judge it against editorial standards for voice and tone, select preferred samples with written rationale, and apply tags to calibrate output.
What You’ll Do
- Review paired AI-generated in-product writing samples
- Judge voice, tone, and adherence to editorial standards
- Select a preferred sample from each pair
- Write a one-line reason for your selection
- Apply tags to calibrate the dataset
- Clear the calibration gate before work moves to live data
Requirements
- Background setting voice and tone for in-product writing at a major tech or consumer product company
- Experience rating or rewriting AI-generated text against editorial standards
Who Should Apply
You should apply if you have shipped in-product writing at a consumer-facing or major tech company and can articulate why one piece of microcopy is better than another. This role frustrates people who prefer to generate and own content end-to-end rather than evaluate others' work, or those uncomfortable making judgment calls with limited context.
Salary Insight
$75/hour is competitive for contract content work, particularly for specialized AI training tasks where you're expected to hold clear editorial standards. The total commitment is relatively light (25 hours for the pilot), making this suitable as supplemental income or a low-risk trial before longer engagement.

Application Tip
Lead with a specific example of a voice and tone standard you've set or enforced—what was it, and what changed when you applied it consistently. The hiring signal here is that you can calibrate taste into a teachable framework. Mercor's process depends on raters who don't drift: demonstrate that you've done this before, ideally showing your reasoning on a hard call (two similar samples, one clearly better).
