Overview
Mercor is hiring board-certified Emergency Medicine physicians to review, annotate, and evaluate clinical documentation for a healthcare AI partner building advanced clinical documentation tools. In this role you will apply your emergency department expertise to review patient charts and AI-generated summaries, directly shaping the accuracy, safety, and clinical usefulness of medical AI systems.
What You’ll Do
- Review ED clinical documentation and patient charts for accuracy, completeness, and clinical soundness
- Evaluate AI-generated ED summaries against what a practicing emergency physician would expect to see on arrival
- Annotate clinical encounter data against detailed guidelines
- Flag omissions, hallucinations, clinical inaccuracies, and documentation gaps in AI-generated output
- Provide structured, written feedback that engineering and product teams can act on
- Contribute expert input on annotation guidelines and edge-case definitions
- Raise clarifying questions where guidance is ambiguous and help refine the guidelines
Requirements
- MD with completed Emergency Medicine residency
- Board-certified in Emergency Medicine
- 2–3+ years of practice as a board-certified ED physician
- US-based
Who Should Apply
This role suits board-certified emergency physicians who are comfortable with ambiguity and iterative feedback loops—you'll be helping define what "correct" looks like for AI systems, not just applying fixed rules. It's ideal if you want flexible, remote work that complements an active clinical practice. It will be frustrating if you expect clear-cut answers upfront or prefer deep continuity with a single patient population; you're reviewing snippets and training systems, not practicing medicine.
Salary Insight
$150–$170/hour for contract work signals fair compensation for specialized expertise (equivalent to roughly $300k–$340k annualized at full-time hours). The hourly rate is appropriate for a fractional, flexible engagement rather than a full-time clinical position, and reflects the AI training market's willingness to pay for credentialed domain experts. Confirm weekly payment terms and whether there are minimum hour commitments or project minimums.

Application Tip
Lead with a specific example of a complex ED case or documentation challenge you've encountered—show that you think clinically about what AI systems need to understand, not just that you can read charts. Mercor will be evaluating whether you can articulate ambiguity clearly and iteratively refine guidelines with a non-clinical team; if you've done any teaching, QI work, or mentored residents on documentation, that's more relevant than years of clinical experience alone. Briefly address your comfort working independently and asynchronously with engineers.
