Overview
AfterQuery is a research lab working with leading AI labs to improve how AI models handle real-world finance problems. This contract role involves writing realistic finance scenarios from your own practice and reviewing how AI models handle them, flagging errors in reasoning, calculations, and guidance.
What You’ll Do
- Write realistic finance scenarios and workflows drawn from your own professional practice
- Review AI-generated responses for accuracy, sound reasoning, and compliance with real-world practice
- Flag subtle errors such as miscalculated figures, wrong assumptions, or incorrect guidance
Requirements
- Four or more years of hands-on professional experience in finance or accounting
- Completed bachelor's degree or higher
- Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
- Clear written English and the ability to explain your reasoning in writing
Who Should Apply
This suits practitioners with deep domain expertise who enjoy explaining judgment calls and catch mistakes others miss—tax preparers, financial planners, CFAs, CPAs, and lending specialists who've actually solved these problems for clients. Avoid it if you prefer straightforward task completion over nuanced evaluation, or if you're not comfortable writing to explain your reasoning in detail.
Salary Insight
The range $100–$200/hour is wide, reflecting different specializations and experience levels; expect the higher end if you bring rare expertise (e.g., estate planning, complex tax structuring) or a credential like CPA or CFP. No salary floor is guaranteed—this is tied to task complexity and your rate, so clarify which specialization they're hiring for and negotiate based on your expertise before starting.

Application Tip
Lead with a specific, recent scenario you've actually worked through—a client problem you solved, a return you prepared, or a plan you built. Don't just list credentials; show that you catch the kinds of subtle mistakes they mention (miscalculated figures, wrong assumptions, missed compliance). Hiring teams evaluating AI need people who can articulate *why* something is wrong, not just spot it, so draft one example of your reasoning in your cover note.
