General Physician - AI Model Evaluation

Mercor

Verified listing
Contract
USA onlyPosted 3d ago$150 per hour

Overview

Mercor is hiring experienced physicians (MDs and DOs) to evaluate health AI models in partnership with a leading AI lab. You will assess model outputs across diagnosis, clinical reasoning, and care workflows to ensure clinical accuracy and safety.

What You’ll Do

  • Evaluate AI model outputs for clinical accuracy, safety, and alignment with medical standards
  • Score diagnoses, case reasoning, and care recommendations against expert judgment
  • Write structured feedback on clarity, safety, and clinical rigor
  • Flag failure modes that compromise patient safety
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers to improve model performance

Requirements

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school
  • Active, unrestricted US medical license
  • Residency complete
  • Currently practicing and seeing patients
  • 3+ years of post-residency experience in your current role strongly preferred
  • Practice in primary care, internal medicine, and hospital-based specialties (Primary Care, General Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care)
  • Sharp attention to detail and clear written communication
  • Located in the US

Who Should Apply

This role suits practicing physicians who want to shape AI development without leaving clinical practice, especially those with intellectual curiosity about how AI will transform medicine. It's less ideal for physicians who need full-time income replacement or prefer deep specialization — this is episodic evaluation work that requires context-switching across many cases.

Salary Insight

$150/hour is at the lower end of physician consulting rates ($200–400/hour is common), but this is a 6-week, part-time contract (20+ hours weekly), not ongoing work. Calculate your expected gross before deciding: 6 weeks at 20 hours is ~$18,000 before tax. This is supplementary income for active practitioners, not a primary revenue stream.

Application Tip

Lead with your current clinical practice setting and what specialty areas you'd evaluate — this team needs breadth of judgment across primary care through critical care, and they'll prioritize applicants already comfortable seeing diverse cases. In your application form, be specific about the last incident where you caught a clinical error or flagged a safety issue; that's the exact work this role demands, and it's what differentiates strong applications from those listing credentials alone.
