Overview
Mercor partners with leading AI labs and enterprises to train frontier models using human expertise. In this role, you will evaluate AI-powered enterprise search and workplace assistants on HR knowledge tasks, grading how well these tools answer real HR questions and identifying where they succeed or fail.
What You’ll Do
- Evaluate answers from enterprise search and workplace AI tools on HR topics within your area of expertise
- Judge whether answers are tied to sources and cite them correctly
- Assess whether results respect each user's access permissions
- Identify stale or conflicting content across knowledge sources
- Distinguish retrieval misses from reasoning errors
Requirements
- 5+ years of active HR practice with demonstrated expertise in a specific HR domain
- Currently in an HR, People Ops, Payroll, or HR Systems role at a technology company (software/SaaS, internet, hardware, semiconductors, or similar)
- Regular hands-on use of at least one enterprise search or workplace AI assistant (e.g., Glean, Workday Assistant, Sana, Microsoft 365 Copilot / SharePoint search, Guru, Coveo, Moveworks, ServiceNow AI Search)
- Hands-on experience using Workday HCM as an end user (not configuration-only training)
- Not primarily a power user or administrator of only Sana or only Glean
Who Should Apply
This role suits current HR practitioners in tech companies who are comfortable evaluating systems critically and spotting the difference between a tool's retrieval failure and its reasoning error. It fits someone who has lived in the Workday ecosystem and knows why a policy answer matters—and who doesn't want to be a full-time consultant but enjoys problem-solving on their own schedule. It will frustrate anyone still climbing the HR ladder who needs a traditional role on their résumé, or someone unfamiliar with enterprise search tools and how they fail in production.
Salary Insight
$70–$90 per hour is a competitive rate for contract HR expertise and reflects the specialized knowledge required—current practitioner status at a tech company, hands-on Workday experience, and familiarity with enterprise search systems. The wide band likely reflects the depth of expertise on specific HR domains (payroll expertise commands the higher end, for example). This is project work paid weekly, so budget for self-employment tax and gaps between engagements.

Application Tip
Lead with a concrete example of an HR problem you've solved or a policy you've built—not a list of tools you've touched. Mention which enterprise search or workplace assistant you use regularly and describe a moment when it gave you a wrong answer and what went wrong (retrieval gap? stale content? permissions leak?). That specificity shows you know what you're evaluating and why it matters. Mercor is hiring you to catch the failures humans notice that metrics miss.
