Overview
AfterQuery is an expert data lab that builds evaluation and training datasets for frontier AI labs to make models more capable and safer. This contract role involves reviewing how AI models handle clinical psychology scenarios and helping write realistic clinical cases to improve AI safety in mental health contexts.
What You’ll Do
- Review AI model responses to clinical psychology scenarios for accuracy, ethics and risk handling
- Explain clearly where a response goes wrong and what a licensed clinician would do instead
- Help write realistic clinical vignettes and reference responses for some contributors
Requirements
- PhD or PsyD in psychology from a US institution
- Active, unencumbered US psychology license
- Currently practicing in the US
- Clear written English for documenting clinical reasoning
Who Should Apply
This suits licensed psychologists with strong clinical judgment who are comfortable writing clear explanations of clinical reasoning and who want meaningful influence on AI safety without disrupting their practice. It will frustrate perfectionist clinicians who expect formal oversight and detailed workflows, or those uncomfortable making evaluative calls on AI output without full patient context.
Salary Insight
$90/hr as an independent contractor reflects expert-level review work, but note that contractor income typically has no benefits, taxes are self-paid, and you're responsible for your own time tracking. This is a 3-week project with flexible hours, so your total earnings will depend entirely on how many hours you log. Confirm the project scope and realistic time commitment before starting.

Application Tip
Lead with a specific example of clinical risk assessment or safety planning you've done—this signals you can think clearly about real stakes and edge cases, which is exactly what evaluating AI models requires. The posted application is short, but use your license details and a brief note on why you're interested in how AI handles mental health; hiring managers at data labs are looking for clinicians who see this as substantive work, not a side gig.
