How to Follow Up After a Job Interview
Jul 9 · MyRemoteJobs Team
Following up after an interview is expected, but it's easy to do in a way that reads as generic filler rather than something that actually helps your case. A good follow-up note is short, specific, and sent within a day.
What to include
- A genuine thank you, specific to something discussed -- not a generic "thanks for your time."
- One brief callback to a moment in the conversation, ideally something you could speak to further or clarify.
- Restated interest in the role, specific to something you learned during the interview, not before it.
What to skip
Don't restate your whole resume or re-pitch yourself from scratch -- that's what the interview was for. Keep it to a few sentences. If you haven't heard back by the timeline they gave you, a brief, polite check-in is appropriate; anything more frequent starts to work against you.
