Portfolio Tips for Remote Job Seekers in Non-Design Roles
Jul 6 · MyRemoteJobs Team
Portfolios are usually associated with designers and writers, but almost any role can benefit from one -- a portfolio is really just concrete evidence of how you think and what you've produced, and remote hiring leans on that evidence more than in-person hiring does.
What counts as a portfolio piece
- A process document or project plan you wrote, with identifying details removed if needed.
- A before/after summary of a process you improved, with real (or reasonably estimated) impact.
- A short case study: the problem, what you did, what happened -- even from an internal, non-public project.
- Public writing, talks, or open-source contributions, if you have any.
Keep it tight
Three strong, well-explained examples beat ten thin ones. For each, spend more time on the "why" and "what happened" than on making it look polished -- hiring managers are reading for judgment, not production value.
