Overview

micro1 engages operations practitioners to design benchmark tasks that measure what AI systems can actually do in real business workflows. In this contract role, you'll transform actual operational work—reporting, process design, workflow management—into realistic, multi-step tasks with objective grading criteria that AI systems can be evaluated against.

What You’ll Do

  • Design multi-step business operations tasks drawn from real workflows with realistic reference files and clear instructions
  • Define objective grading criteria so two independent reviewers would reach the same verdict on the same output
  • Build tasks requiring judgment rather than lookup, where the right answer depends on careful analysis of materials
  • Create or source supporting materials for each task: spreadsheets, system exports, process documentation, operational reports
  • Flag tasks that prove ambiguous or ungradable instead of submitting low-quality work
  • Deliver approved tasks on schedule and at required quality level

Requirements

  • 5+ years hands-on responsibility in business operations, operations reporting, process design, or workflow management
  • Direct ownership of operational work, not supervisory-only or adjacent exposure
  • Experience creating or applying structured standards: SOPs, QA checklists, process documentation, service level definitions, training assessments
  • Strong Excel capability and comfort reasoning across multiple documents simultaneously
  • Strong English proficiency (B2 minimum, C1 preferred)
  • Ability to turn real operational workflows into defined, gradable tasks

Who Should Apply

This role suits someone who has spent years actually running operations—writing playbooks, fixing broken workflows, setting up dashboards—and can see quickly where a process is underspecified or a metric is flawed. You'll thrive if you think in systems and take pride in clarity and standards. Skip this if you're looking for hands-on operational execution itself, or if you prefer work where there's a single right answer and no judgment call needed—this is about designing and grading, not doing.

Salary Insight

The posted range of $45–$90/hr is wide; the upper end signals senior practitioner work with deep domain knowledge, while the lower end may reflect less specialized tasks or geographic variation. At ~10 hours per task, your effective weekly earnings will depend on task velocity and how much project setup time falls outside billable hours. Clarify upfront whether discovery, revisions, and flagging ambiguous tasks are in scope, or if you're paid only for approved deliverables.

Application Tip

Don't just list operations skills—bring a concrete example of a standard or process you built that another person could use to grade someone else's work objectively. Hiring managers for this role are looking for evidence that you've done the meta-work of turning judgment into rubric. A single clear example of "I built an SOP and a QA checklist to catch X, Y, Z" or "I created training assessments that two reviewers could score consistently" will stand out far more than a general operations background. Also signal your comfort with ambiguity: mention a time you flagged a process as ungradable or caught that requirements were underspecified—that intellectual honesty is the job.
