Overview
micro1 is a contractor-based project that trains and evaluates AI assistants by having English teachers complete realistic teaching-related tasks and assess the AI's performance. The role draws on your classroom experience and expertise in language, literature, and writing to improve AI assistant quality through detailed evaluation and feedback.
What You’ll Do
- Complete realistic teaching-related digital tasks using AI assistant tools under standardized conditions
- Read detailed task instructions and grading guidelines closely and follow them precisely
- Give AI assistants clear instructions for real-world tasks and review their work for accuracy, tone, and grammar
- Apply detailed grading guidelines to evaluate and annotate AI assistant responses
- Draw on knowledge of literature, rhetoric, and composition to judge AI-written text quality
- Record findings and submit evaluation data using AI training tools and platforms
Requirements
- Based in the US with iPhone, iMessage, Facebook and/or Instagram account
- Bachelor's degree in English, literature, creative writing, linguistics, or related humanities field
- Strong instruction-following skills and ability to apply multi-step guidelines accurately
- Experience teaching English or literature at K-12, college, or adult education level
- Solid knowledge of literary analysis, writing conventions, and grammar
- Daily, hands-on use of Google Classroom, Gmail, and Google Calendar
- Experience using AI tools for practical tasks with comfort giving instructions and checking work
- Exceptional attention to detail in grammar, tone, and accuracy
Who Should Apply
This role suits former or current classroom teachers who love precision, have strong opinions about good writing, and are genuinely curious about how AI works—not someone looking for traditional teaching. You'll thrive if you're detail-oriented, comfortable following complex rubrics, and enjoy evaluative work more than instruction. It will frustrate you if you need job security, expect teaching-pace interaction, or prefer creative work over systematic assessment.
Salary Insight
The range $15–$40/hr is wide because it reflects both experience level and task complexity; more advanced evaluators command the higher end. No posting states the typical rate for your level, so in your first conversation, ask whether the rate is based on your background and which tier this posting is recruiting for. Research AI evaluation roles on platforms like Scale AI or Outlier to understand where you'd fit; teaching experience is a strong differentiator here.

Application Tip
Lead with a specific example of writing you've evaluated—a student essay, a peer's work, or a rubric you've written. Hiring managers here are hiring for instruction-following and taste in language, not for teaching philosophy. Show that you've worked with AI tools already (even ChatGPT or Gemini for lesson prep counts) and describe what you noticed about its weaknesses in tone or accuracy. A one-sentence note on why you'd be good at catching subtle grammar or rhetoric problems will land harder than your CV alone.
