Overview

Mercor is an AI training data company that works with leading AI labs on GenAI projects. This Program Lead role involves coordinating large pools of domain experts on AI training data, human data, and model evaluation programs, turning research inputs into clear guidelines, and managing quality and throughput.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and coordinate a large pool of domain experts, including onboarding, running calls and weekly reviews, and meeting deadlines and quality bars
  • Translate research and product inputs into clear, actionable guidelines and task instructions
  • Track deliverables, throughput, and quality metrics using Sheets or Excel, and report program status to stakeholders
  • Evaluate expert submissions and quality trends, identify root causes of issues, and provide written feedback
  • Flag risks and blockers early and drive resolution with partners
  • Collaborate with research, product, and subject matter experts to ensure consistency and accuracy in training data

Requirements

  • Experience as an Expert Program Manager, program lead, or team lead on AI training data, human data, or model evaluation projects
  • 3+ years leading or coordinating large contributor or expert teams against deadlines and quality bars
  • Demonstrable career progression (e.g., Expert Contributor to Reviewer to Team Lead to Program Lead)
  • Ability to engage reliably for at least 40 hours/week during weekdays
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to explain complex guidelines clearly

Who Should Apply

This role suits someone with a proven track record managing teams in AI training data or data operations who thrives on systems thinking, quality measurement, and unblocking cross-functional work. Avoid applying if you prefer hands-on technical work over leadership and coordination, or if your experience is primarily as an individual contributor without team management.

Salary Insight

The posted range of $45–$70/hour ($93,600–$145,600 annualized for 40 hours/week) is mid-to-senior for operations and program management roles in AI training, reflecting that this requires substantial prior experience. The wide band likely reflects variation based on background depth and specific expertise in AI data programs.

Application Tip

Lead with a concrete example of a team or program you've managed end to end—project size, quality metrics you owned, and a specific problem you solved (e.g., a quality issue you diagnosed and fixed across a large group). This role is hiring for someone who can manage complexity and ambiguity in a real-time environment; evidence of how you've handled quality drops or scaling challenges will land harder than listing past companies or tools.
