Overview
Mercor is building a dataset of post-production tasks to train and evaluate AI agents in video editing. You will create realistic editing briefs, build complete tasks end to end, write grading criteria, and solve tasks created by other editors to establish reference standards.
What You’ll Do
- Contribute original footage you shot and fully own, or source openly licensed material
- Author realistic editing briefs from source footage
- Build each task end to end in your editing software, including cuts, intentional defects, and reference edits
- Write grading criteria with concrete, checkable standards and editorial reasoning
- Blind-solve tasks created by other editors and provide step-by-step solutions
Requirements
- 5+ years editing professionally in film, TV, commercials, broadcast news, or creator/social production
- Fluent in at least one professional editor: Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or Avid Media Composer
- Proficiency in basic color and audio cleanup
- Comfortable with delivery specs including resolution, frame rate, codecs, audio channel layouts, and frame-accurate cuts
- Library of unpublished original footage you shot and fully own (strong plus)
- Not a California resident
- Cannot be H1-B or STEM OPT candidate
Who Should Apply
This suits editors who are comfortable working in isolation, enjoy building structure and judgment criteria as much as executing cuts, and have original source material or can navigate licensing cleanly. It will frustrate anyone who thrives on client feedback loops, prefers real-time collaboration, or needs the steady income and benefits of full-time work.
Salary Insight
$50/hour is at the lower end for professional video editors with 5+ years' experience in traditional media, though it's market-rate for contract work with flexible scheduling and remote execution. The hourly model with a stated ~12 hours/week expectation gives predictable income but no benefits; clarify whether hours are strictly capped or if overflow is possible.

Application Tip
Lead with your owned footage inventory: Mercor's real constraint is sourcing usable, properly released original material across genres. Before applying, audit what you actually own outright—freelance work where you retained rights, personal projects, or spec shoots. If you have 5+ hours of diverse, properly released footage, lead with that in your application. Generic editing skills are table stakes; the rare applicant is one who can reliably supply source material and explain grading logic clearly enough that an AI system and a peer can score work against it.
