Overview

micro1 is a contractor recruiting bilingual German-English speakers for an audio project supporting AI training. In this role, you'll record yourself reading sentences, annotate audio clips for pronunciation and clarity, create controlled background sounds, and label audio files to help train speech and language AI systems.

What You’ll Do

  • Record yourself reading provided sentences in native German and in English following project guidelines
  • Listen to and annotate audio clips, providing transcriptions and feedback on pronunciation and clarity
  • Create controlled background sounds (stationary car environment, office noise, etc.) as required while ensuring all recordings are from a stationary location
  • Label and organize audio files with accurate metadata tagging and platform submission standards compliance
  • Participate in ongoing speech data collection initiatives supporting AI speech and language system development and evaluation
  • Comply with project requirements regarding privacy, storage, and intended use of voice recordings

Requirements

  • Native-level proficiency in German with clear articulation and excellent pronunciation
  • At least B2-level English proficiency
  • Ability to follow precise instructions and meet project specifications for audio quality and content
  • Comfort working independently in a remote setting and managing your own workflow
  • Attention to detail regarding pronunciation, background noise, and data accuracy

Who Should Apply

This role suits native or near-native German speakers with strong English (B2+), a clear, articulate voice, and the patience to follow exacting technical specifications. It's ideal if you're detail-oriented, comfortable with independent remote work, and interested in contributing to AI development without needing prior experience in that field. It will frustrate you if you find repetitive recording tedious, struggle with background noise management in your space, or dislike precise task specifications that leave little room for interpretation.

Salary Insight

The $30–65/hr range is wide and likely reflects differences in experience level, task complexity, and the specific audio specializations required. German-English bilingual voice work typically commands higher hourly rates. Clarify with the employer upfront which factors determine your starting rate and whether opportunities exist to move through the band.

Application Tip

Emphasize any prior experience with audio quality, transcription, pronunciation clarity assessment, or similar linguistic annotation work — even if not in an AI context. The posting stresses "precise instructions" and "attention to detail" repeatedly; demonstrate this by noting a time you caught and corrected errors others missed, or managed a workflow with strict quality standards. If you're a German-English bilingual, mention which language is native and include a sentence confirming your English level honestly (many applicants overstate it).
