Overview

micro1 is a company engaging digital artists to evaluate and enhance AI-generated images, helping train next-generation AI systems. In this role, you'll conduct detailed visual analysis and comparative critique of AI outputs, identifying artifacts and providing technical feedback to improve model performance.

What You’ll Do

  • Upload original digital images or photographs per project specifications
  • Conduct side-by-side evaluations of your work against AI-generated counterparts
  • Identify and articulate issues with anatomy, color, lighting, perspective, texture, and detail
  • Detect and describe AI artifacts including warped anatomy, smeared textures, inconsistent shadows, and irregular reflections
  • Compose concise, technically precise written feedback using industry terminology
  • Deliver thorough, methodical reviews prioritizing accuracy over speed
  • Collaborate with project coordinators and other contributors on image assessment

Requirements

  • Valid US authorization to contract
  • Minimum 2 years experience in digital art, retouching, compositing, 3D rendering, graphic design, color grading, or photography
  • Portfolio of original works
  • Proficiency in image editing tools (Photoshop, Lightroom, Procreate, Blender, or similar)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with technical visual vocabulary
  • Ability to detect subtle differences and identify AI-specific artifacts
  • Basic understanding of AI image generation and typical failure points

Who Should Apply

Apply if you're a visual perfectionist with 2+ years in digital art, photography, or design, and you genuinely enjoy the meticulous work of spotting tiny inconsistencies and articulating them clearly. This role suits detail-oriented creatives who think systematically about visual problems. It will frustrate you if you prefer open-ended artistic work over structured evaluation, or if you find repetitive comparative analysis draining rather than absorbing.

Salary Insight

The $21–$65/hr range is quite wide and likely spans different contribution levels — newer contractors or those working part-time hours at the lower end, experienced practitioners with proven artifact-detection skills at the higher end. Clarify early in conversations whether your expected level (based on your portfolio and years of experience) maps to a specific part of this band, and anchor your rate to specific deliverable quality or turnaround expectations.

Application Tip

Lead with a portfolio piece where you've caught or fixed something subtle — a color shift, an anatomical flaw, a texture problem — and explain your process for identifying it. Hiring teams for image-evaluation work are looking for evidence that you see things others miss and can describe them precisely. A single strong example of detailed, technical feedback you've given on visual work will outweigh a long list of tools you know; show that you can write like you see.
