Overview
Mercor partners with AI labs to train frontier models using human expertise. This role involves financial reporting domain expertise: you'll review and validate SEC filings, XBRL tagging, and financial controls in Workiva to ensure accuracy and compliance, supporting the development of AI systems.
What You’ll Do
- Confirm figures, tags, and disclosures in SEC filings trace correctly to their source data in Workiva
- Catch broken or stale linked-data links, mis-tagged XBRL elements, sign or period errors, and out-of-scope edits
- Judge completeness of filings: when one number changes, verify all affected statements, footnotes, and tags update
- Distinguish between documents that validate technically versus those that would survive SEC review and audit
- Verify that restricted actions (locked sections, unsigned control overrides) are properly refused
Requirements
- Frequent Workiva use (weekly or more) in current or recent role
- 3+ years of SEC reporting, technical accounting, SOX, or internal audit experience at a public company or audit firm
- Ability to spot broken tie-outs, wrong XBRL elements, and missing disclosures
- CPA strongly preferred; Big 4 or public-company reporting background preferred
- Strong working knowledge in at least 2–3 of: 10-K/10-Q/8-K preparation, SOX 404 controls, ESG/sustainability reporting, earnings releases, rollforwards, Workiva administration
- Prior data annotation, labeling, or AI evaluation experience is a plus
- Not eligible for H-1B or STEM OPT sponsorship
Who Should Apply
This suits someone with deep, hands-on SEC reporting experience who has lived inside Workiva and knows it intimately—not a manager who oversaw it, but someone who has debugged broken tie-outs and tagged XBRL at 11pm before a filing deadline. You'll be frustrated here if you prefer stable, long-term employment, or if your knowledge is textbook-deep but not battle-tested in real filings under pressure.
Salary Insight
$70–$100/hour signals mid to senior-level technical expertise in financial reporting; the band is wide because it accommodates both strong SEC reporting specialists and Big 4-credentialed CPAs. Hourly contract work at this rate typically pays $145k–$208k annualized at full-time hours, but projects are variable. Confirm the expected weekly volume with Mercor when you begin.

Application Tip
Lead with a specific filing or control issue you've caught and fixed in Workiva—a broken link, a mis-tagged element, a disclosure gap—and how you traced it back to its source. This role is hiring for someone who can validate AI training data by spotting what's actually broken versus what merely looks correct on the surface. Saying you "know Workiva" is not enough; show that you've owned the integrity of a filing end to end.
