Overview
micro1 is engaging Education Practitioners to contribute expertise to an innovative education project focused on training AI systems. In this role, you'll evaluate and refine learning materials, assessments, and educational content to ensure pedagogical soundness and learner engagement.
What You’ll Do
- Evaluate and refine interactive learning materials, including quizzes, formative assessments, and tutoring content for accuracy, pedagogical soundness, and learner engagement
- Analyze learning interactions to determine effectiveness in building durable understanding rather than rote answer provision
- Apply and enhance assessment rubrics, grading criteria, and outcome measurement tools to ensure high standards of learner evaluation
- Provide expert feedback on educational content, ensuring academic rigor, suitability for diverse learners, and alignment with learning objectives
- Develop, review, or iterate on visual and multimodal instructional resources to enhance comprehension and retention
- Document observations and recommendations with clarity and precision, prioritizing strong written and verbal communication for effective collaboration
- Contribute insights to improve AI-driven educational tools and resources, drawing on experience with learning design and evaluation
Requirements
- Extensive experience as an instructional designer, learning scientist, assessment specialist, or educator within K-12, higher education, or edtech contexts
- Demonstrated success designing, evaluating, or delivering tutoring, quizzes, formative assessments, or interactive educational media
- Proficiency in judging academic correctness, learner appropriateness, and the developmental value of educational activities
- Hands-on practice developing or applying rubrics, outcome measurement strategies, or innovative grading systems
- Experience creating or optimizing visual, interactive, or multimodal learning materials for diverse audiences
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, supporting precise feedback and effective remote collaboration
Who Should Apply
This role suits educators or instructional designers with deep conviction about how people actually learn—who get energized by the granular work of evaluating whether a quiz teaches or just tests. It will frustrate anyone who sees education as a checklist exercise, or who finds it draining to write detailed feedback rather than giving broad notes. You need the temperament to work alone on quality judgement calls and defend them in writing.
Salary Insight
$90–$130/hr is a solid rate for contract education work, though at the upper end it assumes senior expertise (learning scientist or 10+ years in instructional design). The wide band likely reflects experience level: established practitioners with a track record in assessment design will command the higher end. Confirm what level micro1 is hiring for before the first interview, and have a specific hourly rate in mind based on your years in the field.

Application Tip
Lead with a concrete example of an assessment or learning material you redesigned and how you measured whether it worked—not just your credentials. This team is paying for judgment, not a list of degrees. Show you can write incisively about why something does or doesn't teach, and mention any experience working with rubrics or outcome data. If you've touched AI applications in education (even in pilot form), that's a plus, but your pedagogical expertise matters far more than AI knowledge.
