Overview

micro1 is running an AI training project focused on computational fluid dynamics and aerodynamic analysis. This contractor role involves creating, solving, reviewing, and validating aerodynamic engineering tasks through programmatic workflows—primarily airfoil analysis, CFD simulation, and result validation.

What You’ll Do

  • Solve and validate aerodynamic and fluid-dynamics problems
  • Translate physical requirements into computational models and solver-ready cases
  • Create or modify geometries, computational domains, and meshes
  • Define initial conditions, boundary conditions, fluid properties, and solver settings
  • Run CFD and aerodynamic-analysis workflows using command-line tools
  • Use Python to automate preprocessing, simulation execution, parameter sweeps, postprocessing, and validation
  • Diagnose non-convergence, unstable solutions, and physically invalid outputs

Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with aerodynamics/fluid dynamics/thermofluids specialization; or BS in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering plus 1–2 years of aero-specific professional or research experience
  • Strong understanding of fluid mechanics and applied aerodynamics
  • Experience formulating and executing CFD or aerodynamic analyses
  • Practical proficiency with Python
  • Experience with at least one CLI-accessible engineering tool (e.g., OpenFOAM, SU2, Gmsh, FEniCSx, Elmer, CalculiX)
  • Ability to select and justify modeling assumptions, boundary conditions, mesh strategies, and solver settings
  • Ability to diagnose non-convergence, unstable solutions, and physically invalid outputs
  • Ability to communicate technical reasoning and engineering trade-offs clearly

Who Should Apply

Apply if you have a strong academic or professional background in aerodynamics, are comfortable troubleshooting CFD workflows autonomously, and enjoy turning physical problems into computational models. This role frustrates people who need clear specifications upfront or prefer fixed, predictable hours—each task is different, compensation depends on what you deliver, and you're expected to start within 48 hours.

Salary Insight

The $80–$120/hour range is solid for specialist contractor work and skews toward the high end of CFD/aerodynamics consulting. However, this is output-based pay (per task, not per hour), so actual earnings depend on how efficiently you work and how many tasks you submit. Clarify the minimum submission requirements and average task scope during onboarding to understand what this actually totals.

Application Tip

Lead with a specific CFD or aerodynamic analysis you've owned—a project where you set up the domain, ran the simulation, debugged non-convergence, and validated the results. Hiring managers here want evidence you can move from problem statement to validated solution independently; a portfolio link or concise case study beats a list of tools. Emphasize any scripting or automation you've built to speed up preprocessing or postprocessing, since Python-based workflow efficiency is what this project measures.
