What You’ll Do
- Assess clarity, coherence, and accuracy of written content to ensure it meets project standards
- Conduct detailed writing evaluations and provide constructive feedback
- Identify and annotate AI-generated content, focusing on detecting low-quality or artificial text
- Review and edit documents for grammar, syntax, structure, and tone
- Collaborate remotely with project coordinators and other specialists
- Contribute written analyses and recommendations to enhance AI model training datasets
- Complete assignments within defined project timelines
Requirements
- Writing evaluation expertise
- Editing and grammar/syntax expertise
- Native-level English proficiency
- Attention to detail
- Ability to discern nuances between human and AI-generated text
- Remote collaboration skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Availability in Australia/New Zealand time zones
Who Should Apply
This role suits detail-oriented native English speakers with editorial experience who are curious about AI and enjoy working independently on structured tasks. It will frustrate perfectionist workaholics who need immediate feedback, face-to-face collaboration, or the stability of a permanent role — the work is contract-based, asynchronous, and your output will be judged against rubrics, not subjective praise.
Salary Insight
The $20–$70/hr range is very wide, which typically reflects either the breadth of available tasks (simpler annotations paying toward the lower end, complex editorial work toward the higher end) or variable assignment complexity. In Australia/NZ, contract rates for writing and editing range from $25–$60/hr depending on expertise and specialization; this band suggests you may start lower and increase as you prove consistency and tackle more complex assignments. Clarify on your first contact whether rates are fixed per task, tiered by complexity, or performance-based.

Application Tip
Lead with a specific example of text quality work you've done — not just "I have editing skills," but "I reviewed technical documentation for 50+ articles, reducing jargon density by 30% while preserving accuracy" or "I trained junior writers on maintaining tone across a content series." This role is fundamentally about being reliably discerning, so demonstrate that you've caught real problems and explained why they matter. Mention any exposure to AI or emerging tech if you have it, but it's secondary — they want evidence that you can apply consistent judgment to text under time pressure.
