Overview

micro1 is developing AI systems for legal work, with a focus on derivatives documentation and contract review. This role involves reviewing AI responses to ISDA Master Agreements and related contracts, providing expert feedback to improve model performance and help train state-of-the-art legal AI systems.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform simulated negotiations and redlining exercises on ISDA Master Agreements
  • Review and assess AI responses to derivatives contract scenarios, providing expert feedback to improve model performance and output precision
  • Create objective evaluation frameworks and grading criteria to assess AI performance on derivatives documentation tasks with rigor and consistency
  • Collaborate with product and research teams to refine data, guidelines, and best practices for AI-driven contract review solutions

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in derivatives documentation, with hands-on negotiation of ISDA Master Agreements, LPAs, CSAs and other commercial agreements
  • Deep familiarity with key ISDA provisions, including events of default, termination events, close-out netting, and collateral terms
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong analytical capabilities and ability to translate legal expertise into actionable feedback for AI systems
  • Experience working with cross-disciplinary teams in fast-paced environments

Who Should Apply

This role suits experienced derivatives lawyers who are comfortable with ambiguity and want to shape how AI understands contracts—not someone looking for a traditional legal position. You'll thrive if you can translate expert judgment into clear evaluation criteria and enjoy working at the intersection of law and technology. It will frustrate you if you expect full legal responsibility, traditional hierarchies, or a single "right answer" to every problem.

Salary Insight

The stated range of $180–$200/hr is task-based, not hourly—you're paid per completed task with an average handling time of 3.5 hours. This means your effective hourly rate depends entirely on task approval rates and your speed. For derivatives counsel with 3+ years of experience, the headline rate is solid, but the actual earnings are unpredictable until you understand the approval standards and task volume available to you. Confirm upfront how many tasks per week are typically available and what percentage of submitted work gets approved on first submission.

Application Tip

Lead with a specific ISDA negotiation or complex amendment you've handled—describe the business issue, the redline back-and-forth, and how you resolved it. This team is building AI evaluation frameworks, so they need to see that you think in structures and can articulate *why* a provision matters, not just that you know it. Include one example of explaining a legal concept to non-lawyers or translating between expert and general audiences; that's the core of AI training work.
