Overview

micro1 is hiring Federal Staff Reporting Analysts to contribute to training next-generation AI systems. In this role, you'll create, review, and refine authentic federal reporting artifacts like Weekly Action Reports and SITREPs, evaluate submissions against grading rubrics, and help develop guidelines for AI training in federal report generation.

What You’ll Do

  • Create, review, and refine authentic federal reporting artifacts such as Weekly Action Reports (WARs), Situation Reports (SITREPs), after-action summaries, and executive briefings
  • Develop high-quality, clear written responses and summaries reflecting federal and military reporting practices
  • Evaluate and grade sample project submissions using detailed grading guidelines to assess clarity, accuracy, and compliance
  • Contribute input artifacts and golden reference responses for status, activity, and compliance report types used across federal agencies
  • Support creation of guidelines, criteria, and evaluative rubrics for training AI models in federal report generation
  • Consult on task design and requirements to improve project outputs
  • Participate in feedback cycles to ensure deliverables meet project and client standards

Requirements

  • Military writing expertise
  • Federal documentation standards knowledge
  • Report generation and evaluation skills
  • Grading rubric development experience
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Department of Defense procedures knowledge
  • Ability to work collaboratively in remote environment
  • Compliance best practices understanding
  • Prior experience as federal professional in US Department of Defense with minimum 3 years in federal reporting or staff writing
  • Demonstrated expertise producing templated reports (WARs, MARs, SITREPs, after-action reports, executive summaries)
  • Background with one or more US military branches
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with attention to clarity, tone, and federal style guides
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
  • Ability to articulate reporting methodology and provide feedback
  • Based in United States with proven track record of confidential and compliant report handling

Who Should Apply

This role is ideal for former or current federal professionals and military personnel with 3+ years of experience in report writing, staff writing, or military documentation. You'll thrive if you have deep familiarity with DoD procedures and federal style conventions, and you're comfortable working independently in a remote setting to refine government writing standards. This won't suit you if you lack hands-on experience with federal/military documentation or prefer roles focused on building systems rather than training them.

Salary Insight

The $40–$80/hour range is wide, likely reflecting both the level of relevant experience (entry-level federal background toward the lower end, extensive military writing expertise toward the higher end) and whether you're working full-time or part-time hours. This is contractor work without benefits, so factor that into your calculation against a salaried federal position. Before accepting, research the specific hourly tier for your experience level and confirm whether there's a guaranteed minimum hours commitment.

Application Tip

Lead with specific reports you've authored or overseen—name the type (WAR, SITREP, after-action report), the branch or agency, and the scope (e.g., "Led quarterly after-action report summaries for 50+ personnel across logistics operations"). Avoid a generic list of skills; hiring managers here want evidence you've owned a reporting workflow end-to-end and can teach it to an AI system. A brief note on how you've handled edge cases in federal formatting or compliance will demonstrate the nuance they're looking for in training data quality.
