What they do
Turing connects remote contractors with frontier AI labs and technology companies. Work falls into two main categories: traditional technical roles (software engineering, data engineering, machine learning, cloud development) and AI training/evaluation work (data annotation, model evaluation, prompt design, benchmark creation, factuality checking).
Individual roles range from short-term AI projects (one month) to longer engagements (several months to nine months). Some are full-time, others part-time or freelance. Contractors handle software development, data science, scientific research, business analysis, customer operations, healthcare, linguistics and other specialist domains.
Who they hire and how the hiring varies
Turing does not have one universal hiring process. Requirements, assessments and interviews are role-specific.
Some positions require technical tests, coding challenges or live coding interviews. Others use domain-specific assessments, annotation sample tasks, or AI evaluation exercises. Some roles skip formal assessments entirely.
Before applying: check the specific job requirements carefully. Roles may demand minimum years of experience, particular technologies, specific programming languages, minimum weekly hours or U.S. time-zone availability.
- Search and apply to individual positions—applying once does not put you in a talent pool for all roles
- Complete any required assessment before your application is fully reviewed
- Proceed to interview or evaluation if the role specifies one
- Location eligibility is checked per project, not company-wide
- No individualized rejection feedback is provided
What you need to succeed
Assessments are desktop-only. Use Chrome or Edge, disable extensions and VPNs, allow required permissions, and avoid incognito/private browsing. Some assessments require full-screen sharing and real-time proctoring.
Build a specific profile that showcases your actual skills—Python, SQL, AI evaluation, domain expertise, GitHub, portfolio work or previous annotation experience matter. A generic profile wastes time.
- Desktop computer with reliable internet connection
- Supported browser (Chrome or Edge recommended)
- Professional CV and relevant evidence (GitHub, portfolio, domain expertise, previous AI work)
- Availability matching the contract (many AI roles require minimum hours per week and PST overlap)
- Strong English communication for U.S. clients and AI evaluation roles
Important practical details
Compensation varies by role and project—there is no standard Turing rate. Developers can set their own rate (subject to market guidance); AI and specialist roles specify compensation in the individual listing. Compare contract length, hours per week, and whether benefits like paid leave are included.
Location eligibility is project-specific. A role available in Nigeria, India and Brazil may exclude your country; another may include it. Check the Location field on every listing.
Applications cannot be withdrawn after submission. Rejections require waiting three months before reapplying to the same role (unless it is reposted).
How hiring works here
1. Create account and build profile 2. Search and apply to individual roles 3. Complete required assessment (if specified for role) 4. Participate in interview or specialist evaluation (if required) 5. Application review 6. Receive offer and project details
Remote policy
Remote worldwide, but location eligibility varies by individual project. Many AI roles require minimum hours per week and U.S. Pacific Time overlap. Contractors and freelancers only, not employees.
